The thinnest sewfoam available locally is 1/4 inch. Is headliner material a suitable if I want a thinner foam? I'm concerned it will crush or breakdown if used on a seat.

We often use marine vinyl from trivantage that comes with foam backing from the factory, it is considerably thinner than our glued vinyl/sew foam.

I will use headliner material for upholstery panels occasionally but not for seating areas. I would be afraid it would break down in those applications.

I use headliner as sew foam all the time when 1/4" inst giving the right look. Many upholstery suppliers even sell cheep headliner just for this purpose. If you dont care about the color a supplier usually has something at least 1/2 price in my experience.

I have never had an issue with using it on seats. Ive done it many times and works out fine.
