Hi, I'm trying to repair a Harley Davidson seat. There is a clear rubbery membrane that goes over the foam but underneath the top vinyl, does anyone know what I mean? Does anyone know what the stuff is called or where I would get some?
Thanks.

Hey, I know exactly what you're talking about! On recreational vehicles like motorcycles, it's common to use a thin film of plastic under the cover for two reasons. The first is that it helps when installing leather covers. The suede side of leather grips foam very well and can make installing tight covers very difficult. The plastic is typically applied in two layers. This makes covers way easier to install because it allows the leather to effortlessly slide on the plastic film. The second reason is it can help with waterproofing. In the case of motorcycle seats, the plastic film acts as a barrier to protect the foam from being saturated with water. Leather covers can and will occasionally get soaked and seams can always leak. I have always seen it advertised as "silk wrap/film" Based on the slight scent and elasticity I think it may be made of latex. I'm in Canada and purchase it from JT'S Outdoor Fabrics. They only ship within Canada. Perhaps try Sailrite if you're in the states.

If you're in a pinch and only need it for one seat then saran wrap will probably get you through. Hope this helps!
