Newby to sewing and have been practicing, when I do a lock stitch at the end of a seam it is constantly pulling 4 threads out of the machine simultaneously 90% of the time! Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong!
The dealer I bought it thru came out and ran a good number of samples thru....no issues, I get back on it BAM it's doing it again. Frustrated is not the word for this deal lol.

Did the problem happen again while the dealer was still there? If not, what have you changed after they left? What machine do you have? Could you also attach a photo of what you have happening? Lots of knowledgeable people on here, someone has likely encountered the same issue before.

Didn't change a thing, even used the same scrap material he used just to make sure I was kept the situation 100% the same other than the operator.

Have you tried putting a new needle in after having the problem? Are you certain your bobbin is in correctly ?

Everything is installed correctly according to mfg instructions and the distributor. Thinking on it even further when I finish the stitch and the needle finishes in the up position i usually don't have the issue, but when i have to rotate the head in the correct direction to get the needle in the up position is mostly where it happens.
Have taken each thread apart from the scrap and looked at each thread to see where they are connected, seems to be that i have a needle thread and a bobbin thread and then another piece that is about 8 to 10 inches long i can pull out. So technically it's 3 pieces but the one is connected to nothing......

Just for clarification sake... When you start your stitching line, are you holding the two threads tightly? So, you come to the end of your stitch line and you want to do a back stitch (you say lockstitch, but all the stitches your machine makes are lock stitches) to lock the thread. Your machine has a reverse? If it does, are you engaging it and stitching a couple of stitches backwards? Or without a machine reverse, are you turning the fabric assembly around (with the needle buried in the fabric and the presser foot raised) and then lowering the presser foot and stitching?

Can you make a small video showing the issue?

What is the machine make/model? What needle and thread are you using?

Also just to confirm... you say you "rotate the head in the correct direction", you ARE turning the wheel towards you (from the top, meaning counter-clockwise), right?

I have #18 needle and 92 thread. You are correct on the rotation.
Unfortunately I'm not able to post the video I have recorded, for some reason my phone and this system is not working together, my phone is a galaxy style so at this point not sure what it will take to post a video but will keep trying, thank you all for chiming in this far

What stitch length are you using?
I have had some issues with mine skipping stitches or nesting thread when it is turned up to or above 7mm. I usually stitch with 6.5mm ish and don't have issues. Idk if it is a timing thing or what.

Also i noticed using some aftermarket feet like welting feet have given me many issues similar to what i think you are having. Use the stock walking foot no issues. Welt foot nest like crazy. I had a mechanic look at it and he couldn't figure it out either. I hope you can figure something out.

I think I know what you are talking about. It happens to me if I try to remove the fabric with my needle not in the correct position. On my machine I have to watch not only that the needle is up but also that the thing (sorry I don't know what it called) but it's the tang that the thread goes through that moves up and down while sewing, that must be in it's highest position. Try spinning your wheel by hand to that point and see if that helps.

Yes, the take up lever must always be at its highest point before you try to remove the work

@choptop0130 I think Adam and rdh522 are correct. After watching your video again just now on Facebook I realized that that I always move the hand wheel so the needle is all the way up. I didn't even realize that I did that.

Thanks John, I got on Jukie junkies that night and found that in fact that was the issue, now I'm having problems on my beginning lock stitch wading up the material on the start....the Joy's of learning lol

Glad you found the answer!

Wading at the beginning is usually caused by not holding the threads taunt at the start you dont have to pull really hard just make sure they are taunt. However I noticed you were holding the threads in your video...

Seems to do it more of I'm going slower, also seems to be alot less prone to do it with the needle down in the material when I make the switch to reverse. Just decided to give that a try 8 or 10 times to see if it made a difference, it did but that is only when sewing super slow, after I let go of reverse now I throw the thread out the back just to insure not to drag them under he cloth.
