Hi guys looking for some advice, I’m trying to get to grips using my brother b755 mk3 machine and the thread keeps bunching up before the needle then breaks
I’ve attached a photo

Many things can cause this. Thread could be too large for the needle you are using, or threaded wrong. Bent needle, needle deflection, burrs in the thread path. If the timing is off the hook tip can split the thread. These are a few possibilities, start with the basics, what size needle and thread?

Another thing to check is that the needle is actually oriented correctly. On most machines I'm familiar with, the scarf needs to be exactly pointing to the right with the long groove on the left. Even a little minute amount off can cause the thread to start bunching up. One of my machines is particularly sensitive to this (the others a little more forgiving) and I've always got to double check by holding the thread out at both sides of the needle eye to see if it's aligned properly.

Of course a worn needle or wrong needle/thread combination could also be a factor.

I always do a big clean and oiling and timing of the bottom end (hook timing) when something like this happens along with what everyone else said. I have a few spools of thread that don’t pull off the spool smoothly that can aggravate the situation.

My machine has done that. First time I had put the needle installed 180 out. Next time it was a burr on the bobbin scharf. All pilot error in my case.

Uh... that's not an industrial machine? Is your needle shaft round or shaped? Industrial machines and their needles are usually round so you've got to be very careful how you insert and align them. If you cannot rotate your needle it sounds like a domestic machine/needle which only goes in one way. And if so, I'm afraid I cannot be of much help, besides I have no idea what a thread "30" is. I use v69, v92, v138 bonded poly threads just about exclusively.

Correct, you should be able to rotate the needle. If the shank butt has a flat edge like described above, then it is the wrong needle. You should be using DBx1 needle system on that if my memory serves me.

I have run into the same issue, and for me is was because the hook was not close enough to the needle. So the thread was getting clipped by the hook and then it would be pulled back through the needle back the take up and then hang up as you are having.
