The attached pics show a couple of things I have learned, from this forum and other places. What I did on the seam allowance magnetic measuring tip was add a washer with half of the outer edge painted white and the other half another color (orange). This allows me to sight down the washer and be very accurate.
The chalk sharpening tips is just common sense really. Just find a pencil sharpener for large pencils and go to it. You can get a point that is very sharp , as sharp as a Sharpie (no pun intended). I use chalk for quick lines when there will not be a lot of handling of the piece/area.
I have attached pictures as they always illustrate a point the best.
