[Old tool guy]

New guy here. About 3 yrs ago i rebuilt an old rocker, it came out nice and i have been looking for another one. Found one that almost matches last week on craigslist, it was free so i picked it up. Here is a picture of the condition when i got it, and a picture during deconstruction.
Question. The back is padded with cotton batting supported by burlap, with shredded wood between the cotton layers. I recognize the brown material, but i don't recognize the black material. It is a finer texture than the brown filler … what is it?

Could that be horsehair?

I have encountered the same thing and do thik it is horse hair.
