I'm trying to sew a french seam (double top stitch with webbing on the back) on some bucket seats. This is the main seam connecting the plate to the boxing. The plate has 1/2" foam and the boxing has 1/4" foam. I can sew the top stitch on the boxing side fairly well because there's not much material to manage to the right of the needle. But the plate side involves rolling up and stuffing the assembly through the neck of the machine. Or does it? How do you get a neat stitch on the plate side?

This is just a hobby with limited space and funds, so I can't buy another long-necked or post machine. I'd like to learn how to do it with what I have, an Ultrafeed LS-1.
