The things that make me go hmmmmmm. They sell stuff but I don't know way I'd select one thing over another.

Carpet - I liked the Super Flex 18oz carpet but a mentor trimmer said whoa no, that wears terribly, use a latex back carpet. does the latex stretch better? The wrong oz? What oz should I be looking for? What backing should it have? hmmmmm

Carpet Pad - Gray Deck Pad is 1/4" thick and Jute Pad comes 30oz and 40oz. Is it the same thing with a different name? What's the difference is oz? Oh, and there is glazed jute pad..... and don't forget about the width 30" 36" or 72"!!! hmmmmm

Dynamat, Dynaliner, Bonded Logic, Frost King, Reflectix.... OMG and WTH!!! How does the unknowing know? :confounded:

I've been googling so much I'm dizzy!

Dynamat is probably the oldest name in noise suppression and probably the most expensive . A lot of guys put it on everything even inside the doors , side quarters and roof for sound deadening Lizardskin makes a spray on for noise and another for insulation None are cheap though
Ive got the big brother to the coupe in my avatar

I do a lot of car audio work. What works best for me to deaden noise and vibration at reasonable cost. The brand is noico. I get the 80mm 36sqft pack of Sound Deadner and the green closed cell foam also 36sqft. Great price for the return on performance. I say the same or better then companies I used in the past at 4 time the cost.

@kl4bidn The problem is that the super flex carpet is not really carpet. At least if were talking about the same stuff. It trunk liner. Its ment for lining the walls of trunks and other crazy shapes because its so flexible. But its not meant for foot traffic. You want to use carpet that actually looks like carpet that you see in any other car. There is lots of options out there. I use the el dorado automotive carpet a lot https://www.albrightssupply.com/Cutpile ... Click=3957 german square weave is also really popular with the hot rod guys right now but its pricey. https://www.albrightssupply.com/German- ... Click=3957
Backed carpet does not stretch better but it holds up to the foot traffic.

The OZ rating of fabric just tells you how much it weighs per square yard. Witch loosely tells you how dense and thick the fabric is. The thicker and heaver the more sound and heat deadening you will get i guess... But you also don't want to build up the carpet super high. Just use your best judgment. one layer of 30oz should be fine. I just use regular jute

You can use whatever width you like with the jute. Its pretty easy to glue it down with a seam that is smooth so I suggest getting whatever is cost effective.
Carpet comes is different widths. Make sure you get it wide enough for the widest piece youll need.

In my opinion I think using dynamat and jute is quite redundant but I have never tested the difference before and most customers want it because they saw it in some magazine. I also think its way over priced for what essentially looks to be tar with aluminum backing....

@Trimmerman79 Thanks for the great links on the dynamat alternatives. You would defiantly know more about that than me. Whats your opinion on using this stuff? Is it really more than just tar with aluminum? I see people cover every inch of their car in this stuff. Seems a little overboard to me. especially because its so heavy and a nightmare to remove if you need to. A stereo guy told me once that a small strip of sound deadening on a panel will have the same effect as it would if you covered the entire panel. Any truth to that?

No problem, glad I could help point people in the right direction. This material or butyl the sticky stuff is different then the tar the roofer guys use. This has good adhesion and works well. It’s 80mil thick which most others are 50mil standard. You don’t need to cover an entire panel to get good performance out of quality Deadening. I do about 35% coverage on the sheet metal with the standard mat. I use the closed cell foam between the door skin and door panels. Works out very well for me. But if I have extra and the customer paid for it, I just apply the extra where I can find spots for it.

Really not sure as I never ran the car without I have also sprayed dyed pickup bed liner on to bottom of the floor and all of the fenders . My car also has a vinyl roof insert instead of filling in the hole with metal so like a convertible I get a lot of wind noise from that. These old cars like mine are hard to get noise level low because basically the body is bolted to the frame. a couple years ago a rear caliper started to leak so I changed both and decided to change pads also Napa had two different ones and the more expensive one was more aggressive . After waiting for break in I changed them because of noise Like I said these old two doors with no trunk are hard to keep noise level down

@Trimmerman79 Great info! Thanks. Thats new info for me. What reason do you use the closed cell between the door skin and panel?

@hapyrdr Yeah thats my experience as well. I feel like on the old cars like that the dynamat products do more for heat reduction than they do noise reduction.

@John I guess I misunderstood a bunch of posts. I have reordered latex backed carpet,. I hope the dye lot matches as I have the two floor pieces glued but the transmission tunnel is kicking my ass. On my first 2 attempts the unback didn't hold up to pulling on the curves. The third attempt where I used a stay stitch on the binding (sewn on at 3/8" and stay stitched at 1/8"), held up but I stupidly tried to reposition and the fiber stayed put. Live and learn!

@kl4bidn you will make it look good for sure, you started with lemons for a carpet and tried to make lemonade and it didn't work but at least you tried and now you're getting the right carpet material so it's going to look awesome! Yeah no doubt production seating will a piece of cake to someone who can already build one from scratch! :sunglasses:
