@John man I can't hate you for what you like haha. I just have so many pieces of rusty iron that I like to put paint on some of them. I gave that old truck to a friend of mine that's in our antique truck club because he didn't have one and he loves working on big iron so I think him and I both are going to enjoy the journey on this one. Don't worry I still have plenty of rust around here.

@Bondo497 Haha alright cool. Some people hate the patina / rat rod fad that is really popular right now. I have an appreciation for a lot of different styles I guess. I like shiny painted things as well

I've got one in the shop right now you might get a kick out of. K100 that blew a steer tire on 244 in Tulsa. I've got a fair amount of fiberglass work to do on this ol girl.

That's a nasty black eye! Man I saw a perfect survivor K-100 in Carthage last week, wish it wasn't so far from the house or would have asked about it. Not so far from you. It's on 400.

That KITTYWOPPER really needs a gullwing bumper on it now that the Texas one is trashed.

Its crazy how much damage a steer tire blow out can cause! I bet that was a scary ride.

Got her all glassed back together and primed last week. Problem with trying to color match the red is that its single stage that was put on about 4 owners back. So she may be coming back in after a bit for a full paint job.

Hey Bondo, I am curious about why there may be problems with the single stage and repainting from a few paint jobs back? Is it just color matching? You smoothed that out really nice!


I should have taken pictures of the Freightliner hood we did a collison repair on this week ,it was sprayed in single stage. It is hard to guess what happened as there was no bumper damage and the truck came in all washed up. I am thinking somebody had a sign nap

Thank ya sir. Luckily they found some of the pieces on the side of the road so I wasn't starting completely from scratch. Probably 50% of it was from scratch. Just time, $, and fiberglass. HaHa.

Sorry I've been away a while, just saw your question. One reason is fade out and oxidation that you get with single stage paints and also hard to blend without leaving a pebbled dirty blend edge.

Nice repair. I would recommend buffing surrounding area around the repair to bring up the original color as close as it used to be and have it matched in a base color then spray it base/clear. This way you can blend out the color and melt in the clear.

Bondo 497 That is really some nice work on the frame I know the work about cleaning and preparation for paint. Yes having a shop close by really has some advantages. If you just have a little time you'll go out to work rather than having to drive a ways to get there I'm getting ready for a shop addition . Wife says it will be last so it will be a good one

Yes sir you know it! Prep is where all the blood sweat and tears happen, painting is the easy part. One day I'll get my own fun house but good luck on yours, I'm sure it will be a nice addition!

Since you have the luxury of the headlight panel being separated from the main body panel you could easily tape that panel off which in sure you're going to and put flattening agent into the clear if you decide to go BC/CC and that will immulate the dull existing finish. Just puting that out there.

10-4 on all that. I've done enough repair jobs to know when to blend it back and when to re-spray. Old girl is rock and bug chipped all over the front. Matching would require a "faux finish" Haha. Imagine that, going at fresh paint with a slingshot and rocks just to make it not stand out.Customer wanted it "legal" for now. I was nice enough to seal up the fiberglass and gelcoat. "Customer's always right, even when you would rather do it right".

Never doubted your capabilities, was using you and your project as an example of what COULD be done if anyone here on this forum was wondering and wanted to attempt their own projects.

10-4. No offense taken by me. I'm not always the best at explaining how to get from the before to the after. I forget at times other people could be looking for answers on here not related to upholstery. I mainly just put this on here because I thought you'd get a kick out of it.
