I’m sure it’s been asked but I’m trying to figure out the best place to buy materials one for practicing and two for actually completing my future projects one of which is redoing my boat seats. Any advise would be appreciated thanks.

I like Albright cause they have online services which really helps cause doing this on the side, I usually order after hours. Most seem like you have to call to order, or to even get a price. Theirs is all online. But I would suggest along with them, getting to know local suppliers. Some may only supply to companies or people with a tax Id. Some will sell to anyone.

Hi @Forrest! Welcome to the forum!!! Happy to have you here.

My favorite online upholstery store is Albright's. https://www.AlbrightsSupply.com/?Click=3957
On top of all the reasons Cody stated they also have free shipping on orders over $150. They are also really great with sending you samples. A lot of companies are really stingy with samples.

Albrights has a 10yd store with vinyls around $5. Great for practicing on this stuff. https://www.albrightssupply.com/10-Yard ... Click=3957

They are also really helpful with any questions you have. @torriec is a member of the forum and works at albrights. She is really helpful as well!

It would also be a good idea to get to know what local suppliers are close to you as well. Try doing a google search for " Upholstery Supplies" + (your zip code or town name)
A lot of suppliers will only sell to business but some will sell to everyone. Just a mater of finding witch ones.

Hope this helps

Local ones can be nice. I have one that I frequent, they will have a bin out front with foam and small amounts of vinyl, a yard or so at reduced prices. I like going to the local stores to feel the material, basically the quality and the thickness. I find that pricing is the same as the internet, they know they have to keep the prices in line or they will be losing customers.. But when you live out in the sticks and 1.5 hours away from the city, the internet is the way to go.

I've always bought my materials online because it's easy to compare. I like to shop about for the best prices I can find e.g. I recently started looking around for a new upholstery foam supplier and landed on that one. A good tip would be to sign up for newsletters when you can find them, sometimes a lot of these websites offer discounts from time to time, which is when I stock up a bit more

I just ordered from Albright, first time, but they shipped my stuff out quickly and it will be here tomorrow.

Does anyone have a source for sunguard 92 M style pre-wound bobbins in colors other than black and white? Does anyone worry about the color of the bottom stitch since it shouldn’t show anyway? I’m just starting, sorry if that’s a dumb question.

@Huntsman1 Good point! I do that too. I always stock on on rolls of black vinyl when it goes on clearance.

@Joemcglynn Welcome to the forum!! Not a dumb question at all. It is good practice to have matching thread colors top and bottom.
Try http://www.qualitythread.com/Sunguard.htm for bobbin colors
