"Old" beginner needs advice

Hello everyone!
I'm almost 40 and I've never tried to sew. Shame on me? I think it's never too late to start :relaxed:
I can't go shopping and buy new clothes because we are all on a quarantine now. But it is a great opportunity to have a new hobby! I want to learn to sew clothes for myself and for my daughter. Sounds cool but I have no experience at all. Moreover, there is no sewing machine in our house. And there is the question? Being a beginner, should I buy a new "special" machine for beginners or could I buy a used unit (which can be "not for beginners")? How did you start? :blush:
I've already checked some reviews on small sewing machinesand the prices . Both options have almost similar prices. However, there could be some troubles with the delivery...
All suggestions, opinions, and thoughts are appreciated! Thanks in advance!
P.S. I hope all of you stay safe now :pray:

Hi @Alectia !
It is never too late to learn. I jumped into sewing vinyl at 50 and didn't know there was differend size needles and thread. lol. But for what you are looking for this may not be the best forum. Very helful people here but mostly oriented toward upholstery with heavier fabrics.
I would look for a used maching of facebook marketplace or Craigslist. You you should find something fairly cheap.

Look up the topic on youtube. youtube is all our best friend. There should be some great resources there that are more oriented toward clothes.

Hang in there and remember it will take some time to learn but it is not as hard as it looks once you get comfortable with your machine. Best of luck!

Hi @Alectia Happy to have you here. None of us here have much experience making clothes. Mostly because it is a very different skill and requires different tools. Its something Ive always wanted to learn but haven't had the time...

@vicstric gave you some great suggestions.

Also If you are interested my cousin has a clothes sewing blog that she does for fun. Here is the link.

I hope this helps!

@Alectia ,

How have you made out on your machine search? I look at the machines at Wal Mart all the time and they are under $200.00 OR see classified for these machines . Do not let age discourage you for a $20.00 price tag machines have been around a heck of a long time and have been stitching just great! I grew up in a tailor shop sewing room and never paid a lick of attention and wished I would. I did learn from that though that for $20.00 you can start sewing and order patterns from McCalls?
