My friend has a leather sofa and would like to know what would be the best type of thread to stitch with as the cushions that you sit on have a detail on them which runs across the cushions and it has come apart,he has purchased some thread from a knitting shop today but it snapped when he tightened it,so if anyone knows where he could get some from online or a link that would be great the sofa is dark brown in colour, also could somebody tell me does it have to be waxed cotton and if so just out of interest is that just to nake it easier to pass through the leather?

Hi yes the cushions have an inch wide bad running across the centre and it's the thread on those that have come apart from the main leather of cushion causing an open gap all the way across each cushion ,he's going to hand stitch it himself

I don't do a lot of furniture repair but I would use at least size 69 thread. Nylon or Polyester thread will work for indoor furniture.

I would use a waxed linen thread, waxing will make it slide easier. Just be sure that you can't break it by pulling really hard on it, if you can then don't use it.

polyester is a little better for wear resistance if it matters.
