Hi :)

at first.. sorry about my bad english. I hope I can convey it the right way.

In woodworking I have good expierence and did many projects over the years. Now I want make my first upholstery project. As it seems not too difficult and we need it in our new home anyway, I decided to make a storage box.

The total size of the box (without the lid) should be 120cm x 40 cm and 30cm height. To get some expierence in upholstering, the box should be upholstered around with 1cm foam and 100g padding.

My questions are:
- How big should the final size of the sewed "fabric tube" be? (is it 120x40?)
- How big should I build the wooden box, to get a final size of 120x40? I assume, that there should be some space between the fabric and the wood for the foam and padding. Is half a cm on each side enough? So the wooden box would be 119cm x 40cm

The lid (is it the right word for it) will be a 120cm x 40cm wooden plate with 121cm x 40cm x 12cm foam on it. I will also add some padding around and on top. The wooden edges will only be covered with padding. The fabric will be sewed to the size of 120x40x15.

I want the box and the lid to be the same size around.

The information I got until now is from youtube and some websites.. so I'm a total beginner and I'm sorry, if my questions are stupid:D

Regards from Munich,
Rafael

So when I do box cushions I sew the cover to finish out the at the size of the cushion without padding. Then add padding and install the cover. That usually makes everything fit nice and tight because the foam will compress a bit and the fabric will stretch a bit. If the cover is still loose then add more padding.
