Need advice: Rebuilding an rv style captain’s chair armrest?

I am helping my awesome daughter with a bus rebuild and am recovering some captains chair seats.

My question is about what i should do about the innards/foam in this armrest that is totally worn out.
Should i just replace with hd foam? It had some closed cell foam around the steel frame that is shot too.

I think you should repalce that foam. I know for certain it is so thin in areas that you will be spending a lot of time trying to patch that up.

Is there a type of foam you’d recommend? Totally new at this.

The higher density the better. What you think is firm enough probably wont be especially once you get an elbow into that and it bottoms out and hits the frame.
