I'm trying to source a lightweight material that is coated to be completely waterproof whilst retaining decent strength properties. We are currently using WeatherMaxPU with great results but now have applications where weight saving is critical.

Does anyone have any experience of alternative waterproof fabrics that have a good tear resistance and are lighter than the WeatherMaxPU (8.8oz/yard, 298g/m2)???

Sounds like your doing something with aircraft? Have you considered boat/fabrics like Sunbrella or any of the awning fabrics? I know Sunbrella is 315g per m2 but I don’t know how to convert that to Imperial, Oddesy is lighter yet.

It's for a marine application. Acrylics such as Sunbrella are too heavy and don't have the abrasion resistance we need. I am looking into the mountaineering/backpacking industries to see what they have to offer - I've found some PU coated Cordura's and a Dimension Polyant cloth adapted from one of their sail cloth lines which looks interesting...

I would try a Gore-Tex type material or similar. Its what they make hi end Tents and Out door jackets out of.
