Tuck welting inside a flat felled seam

Why does nobody do this (is it a dumb idea)? I sewed an ordinary closing seam in automotive vinyl, and then tucked piping/welting under the seam allowance before top stitching it down like a flat felled seam. It had a slightly lower profile than the conventional welting sewn into the seam. I thought it looked really good but I never see anyone else doing such a thing. Opinions?
