Juki LU562 problem

A friend has a Juki LU562 that is fraying the top thread. The machine bobbin was re-timed and that seemed to work for single layer of vinyl.
When attempting to sew 1 layer of vinyl, 1 layer of 1/2" foam and piping, the thread is fraying again. The bobbin has been re-timed several times now with no improvement. My first thought was needle 180 out. Any ideas out there?
Thanks, Lee

Ended up being the wrong needle. Pilot error strikes again. He is a happy guy again.
